About

St. Michael's Church

The Church of St. Michael, Beer Hackett is Grade II listed. It has 15th Century origins and was largely rebuilt in the second half of the 19th Century; the two phases of rebuilding and restoration were carried out by Crickmay & Son and C E Ponting respectively, both well-established architects who were careful to preserve or reuse earlier material.

We are lucky, therefore, to have 15th and 16th Century elements such as the tower, gargoyles, windows and the doorway to the south porch within the fabric, as well as many historic fittings including a 15th Century font, and a contemporary ensemble from the 19th Century of pulpit, pews and altar rail. The organ, built by T E Bates and Son of London, was presented to the church in 2002, following the closure of the Methodist Chapel in nearby Thornford.

 Friends of St Michael’s Church

Friends of St Michael’s Church was set up in 2019 by a group of parishioners, villagers and other interested people concerned to help preserve and enhance our superb church building.  We aim to provide voluntary help and to raise funds to conserve and maintain the fabric, furnishings and fittings of the church building to ensure its existence for future generations and to develop its role as a ‘community building/hub’ for the benefit ALL local residents.

The annual church operating costs remain the responsibility of the Parochial Church Council (PCC).

Membership of the Friends of St. Michael's is open to all for an annual contribution of just £10 per person.
